Tret Fure’s Stone by Stone is yet another masterpiece in her gallery of recordings. The writing is personal and poignant, the performances pure Tret. I love it!”
- WANDA FISCHER, WAMC-FM PUBLIC RADIO
Iconic singer-songwriter-guitarist TRET FURE introduces in concert STONE BY STONE, her most excitingly mature and thoroughly thought-provoking CD to date. It roams from Folk to Blues to Jazz and even to Rock (“Across the Room”). Her prize-winning “Monuments” has already logged radio airplay, perhaps because her strong, articulate voice and stellar guitar underline the richness and hard-earned wisdom of her lyrics. Produced by The Eighth Step, livestreamed via Mandolin.com
“Her stories are our stories at once current and timeless, her lyrics are always well crafted and her music supports and enhances but never overpowers her message. Every album from Tret is a treat and Stone by Stone is no exception.”

The personal and political intertwine here in the hard path of her immigrant grandparents;
All alone in a world
They don’t know
In a neighborhood that hated them
For their differences
But they managed with each other
And grew strong despite the spite
Welcome to America
["Welcome to America"]
...and in her call for growing beyond the generations-old racial divide in America:
As old as the civil war
As new as black lives matters
Society disrupted
Democracy in tatters
Celebrated by some
And detested by others
In the end we must remember
We’re all sisters and brothers
["Monuments"]
A pioneer of Women’s Music and trailblazer as a woman in the field of sound technology, Fure’s long performing career was propelled by a recording collaboration with Spencer Davis, followed by her stellar first solo album Tret Fure.
One of the most prolific artists in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, Fure began touring at 19 (in the early ‘70s), when women weren’t welcome in most areas of music. Her debut album came out two years later (with Bonnie Raitt lending a hand), and within months Fure was working with some of the biggest bands of the era: yes, Poco and the J Geils Band (long before “My Baby Is A Centerfold”).
