Prolific, multi-talented, and charming onstage, Canadian bluegrass/folk/Celtic singer-songwriter and virtuoso instrumentalist J P (Jean Paul) Cormier from age 16 has released over a dozen albums. He plays 6- and 12-string guitar, dobro, piano, fiddle, upright bass, banjo, mandolin, drums, percussion, synthesizer and cello.
Cormier has appeared at U.S. festivals and at the Grand Old Opry with Waylon Jennings, Marty Stuart, Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe and many others. He’s also worked with Kitty Wells, Travis Tritt and Vince Gill.
His multiple award nominations include 13 East Coast Music Awards, Canadian Folk Music Award, five Music Nova Scotia Awards, Juno nominations, commendations from the Governor General of Canada and Premier of Nova Scotia.
His 2015 album, The Chance, was nominated for a Juno award in the Traditional Roots Album of the Year category. Cormier has performed at numerous American festivals, and at Celtic Colours Festival in Cape Breton every year since the Festival started in 1997. In 2005, Bravo! network aired “J.P. Cormier - The Man and His Music,” a one-hour documentary.
